L’InTRu is a research team from the University of Tours (Équipe d’accueil n° 6301). The acronym “iInTRu” refers to the terms “interactions, transfers, artistic and cultural breaks”. Initially created by historians of contemporary art in 2008, the team now brings together researchers from a variety of scientific fields: film studies, literature, philosophy, semiotics, comics aesthetics, history of photography, architecture, painting, design, cultural geography. The researchers in the InTRu team share, above all, common methodological concerns. They concern in the first place the cultural transfers from one country to another, the phenomena of reception in the arts, as well as the articulation between theories and practices, in culture and in the arts. The team’s research also focuses on questions of cultural and artistic hierarchy and legitimacy: the tensions between the “banal” and the “exceptional”, the way of looking at mass corpora and serial objects as well as unique objects and “masterpieces”. They are interested in the interactions and hybridizations between the arts and the articulations between visual culture and print culture. Beyond these methodological convergences, they share a number of thematic objects. One of these concerns the construction of contemporary visual cultures, between painting, photography, cinema, graphic design, design and printed image. Another concerns the history of architecture and urban planning, the representation of inhabited spaces, the links between public action and political and social issues. Between these two poles circulates finally a common interest for the critical stakes and the strategies of emancipation which make it possible to understand and to thwart the forms of spatial, cultural and visual domination.
